People often tend to assume that extreme situations involving fires, floods, vandalism of threats will never happen to them. As human beings, we obviously try to avoid pain at all cost. But unfortunately, everybody’s home is at risk of fire. Smoking, faulty appliances, overloaded sockets and cooking accidents are just a few reasons why house fires occur each day.

Today, I would like to share with you a few steps you can follow in order to help reduce the chances of a fire happening in your home.

Firstly, make sure you have fully functional smoke alarms that are tested regularly with the batteries changed at least once a year. This is really important and it can have a huge impact if not checked regularly.

Make sure all space heaters are turned off if you are away from your home or asleep at night. How many of us tend to leave the heaters turned on during the night so our homes are nice and warm? Have you ever thought about the risks of doing so?

Check all electrical cords to make sure they aren’t damaged or frayed. And also, check around your home to make sure that your power sockets aren't overloaded with plugs.

Ensure that any lamps you are using have the correct bulb wattage and that you’re not exceeding the recommended amount. Again, this is a simple step that most people don't even think about. However, it is important to do these checks every now and again.
